LoZ:Skyward Sword - War Of The Heavens Ch1-1

Ch1-1: An Unannounced Guest

Link was sitting on the highest precipice of the cliff, his legs dangling over the edge.  From this position he could see everything.  It was almost as if he was flying with the warm afternoon breeze in his face, blowing through his hair and against his clothing. He felt at ease here... this was his second favorite spot, the other belonging up there among the clouds in that "other world", although he did not remember much of it. He had not been to that world "officially" for a few months now and before that, since he was a very young lad.  The last time he was there, he was an unannounced guest to the court and had received a crucial piece of information, one that could change everything...

He smiled to himself, remembering those events.  Him and his people had been relayed important info from a spy within the Fire Riders ranks.  Someone who had sympathy for the Sky People; those who have been unwillingly and brutally, thrusted from their homeland in the Heavens to the dirt far below.  Link had dressed up as a Noble for the occasion; complete with bulky black flowing hooded robe that they had "acquired", which dragged across the grey cobblestone pathways, with intricate patterns on the front of the robe along the edges and on the sleeve arms and wrists, around the collar and down the back and sides with bright blood red dragoon runes.  And the front was held closed by six large loops with carved stone oval dragoon rune buttons.

He had been flown up to the Heaven's by his trusty stead Epona; a flying bird of sorts with colorful wings and a powerful beak and razor sharp talons, although he had to be careful due to the patrolling guards on foot and the look out towers and the occasional dragoon patrolling the skies.  He had to fly through the clouds mostly masking his entry and pick a good spot for landing or else the alarm would sound and all Hell would break loose.

Link had petted his mount after getting off of her and for the first few minutes tried to be stealthy.  Some of the sights he saw were somewhat familiar to him, the general layout of the area was about the same, but he had been so young at the time that he did not really remember anything intricate.  However, from reports of them retreating, the castle itself which had been a marvelous palace; fantastic crystal and marbled walls of different hues of blue, emerald greens and whites, some even see through, had been apparently destroyed and over night a new castle had been erected.  How a society could have created such a feat in just one day was unbelievable...

The Sky People had thought that their own castle had been impressive and it had taken many years to complete, but this new castle of the Dragoonians was even more impressive.  It stood 20 stories tall, even taller than the old castle, with intricate stone carvings carved into it's walls.  It was in a shape of an enormous dragoon which was not even standing straight up, but sitting down with it's head held high gazing outwardly as if watching over it's people.  It's long curved tail over a mile long was thick enough, tall enough and long enough to make it's own castle defense wall that wrapped around itself, with only an opening big enough in the front to have a two lane road for people and supplies to pass through.  Only parts of the castle like the wall-walks, the castle gate and the towers themselves; which housed the arbalestiers, seemed to be a miss for the entire setting of the magnificent beast sculpture.

He walked right through the opened castle doors, keeping his hood down over his head to obscure his face and his hands were well hidden with in the sleeves, each hand being inside the opening of the other sleeve, making his much paler skin hidden from public view.  But besides the guards stationed at crucial parts of the castle and the surrounding areas, there was practically no one else here at the moment.  And in any case, most nobles wore it this way anyway, so there was no cause for alarm.

He made his way not only into the castle itself, but right into the "belly of the beast" down below into the laboratories to meet up with the scientist that had sent the message.  Phillip had risked his life to send word and risked it even further to give him the much info needed that could quite possibly turn the tide of this unwinable war.  Although the scientist was content to stay where he was and he did not have any desire to be friends with the Sky People themselves, he did not like how his Empire had taken over the world and thrusted the Angels out of Heaven and how they had been battling ever since.

And his own people were dying from oppression and starvation.  Part of the campaign that took over the Heaven's was the destruction of farms and food stuffs to starve out the Angels.  The war had lasted longer than had been initially anticipated and both many a Bird and Dragoon had lost their lives.  On top of that, because of the unnecessary war, most, if not all funds of the empire; either in money, food, equipment etc., was put forth to the war effort.  Although, due to his position, Phillip and his family were well taken care of, the rest of his people were forced into hard labor or into the lower ranks of the military to keep feeding the war machine.  It was an atrocity.

But what was given to Link, was both a small vile of purplish black liquid that was somewhat thick and when shaken seemed to stick to the inside of the glass and also a parchment scroll with a formula which was written in ancient dragoon runes that Link could not read, but Princess Zelda most likely, along with the other Royal Advisers, could.  Phillip told him he did not have enough time to explain in detail what it was, but warned Link not to rely on it too much, it was only to assist, not a complete answer to the problem.....
I started writing this story a few months ago ever since I wrote the poem "Plight of the Valkyries" and have been on and off with it much like everything else I write. This is not LoZ cannon in any shape or form... in fact, besides a few pictures and details I have seen or read, I know nothing of Skyward Sword... just that it is was a highly anticipated game for someone VERY Special... I also doubt I will ever be able to bring myself to actually play or even read up on this game...

But because of that I get to write a story that is unique for the most part with only the most basic of things staying true or at least in my head, mostly just the names and the type of birds and maybe personalities, etc. This wont be an overly long story, just a few chapters, but hopefully entertaining ones none the less. I suppose it is best it is not straight from the game, that way it feels fresh to everyone.

I would have posted this sooner, but I had to put the finishing touches on it and I was also working on and just finished a video for Valentines Day... enjoy.
